Vegetable Tanned Leather

Each vegetable tanned leather product presents the natural characteristics of leather, meaning it is original and unique. Some signs of scarring or insect bite might be visible because resins usually used on commercial leathers are not used on these products - thus appearing genuine unlike commercial leathers which display an artificial look. Each hide absorbs dyes in different ways, and as such there are small tonality variations in each leather product.

The pieces sold by Ideal & Co. are created with the best Portuguese leathers. These leathers are tanned with vegetable tannins, obtained from tree bark, such as Mimosa, Quebracho, Castanheiro, among others, and are dyed with natural dyes. In this tanning process none of the chemicals, commonly used in the majority of luxury leathers, based on Chromium salts are used.
