ALMA Workshop No. 1 | Inspired by Fernando Pessoa

Join us for the inaugural ALMA Workshop at SAUDADE—an intimate cultural experience where poetry, painting, embroidery, Portuguese food, and conversation come together in one carefully curated evening.

Created by ALMA, a collective founded by curator and poet Iberina Vi, watercolour artist Brígite Reis, and embroidery artist Luciana da Costa, this first workshop is inspired by the current Fernando Pessoa exhibition at SAUDADE and invites you to slow down, reconnect with your creativity, and experience Portuguese culture in a meaningful way.

The evening begins with a guided introduction to the exhibition and a reading of one of Fernando Pessoa’s poems. You’ll then create a mixed-media artwork by painting on fabric with Brígite Reis before gathering over Portuguese wine and traditional finger food appetizers while Iberina Vi shares an original poem inspired by the meaning of saudade. Afterwards, Luciana da Costa will guide you through embroidering the word saudade using a simple hand stitch, bringing your artwork to life.

Every participant’s artwork will remain on display at SAUDADE for one week and On the reverse of your artwork, you’ll receive a printed copy of Iberina Vi’s original poem Saudade, making it a lasting keepsake.

No previous artistic experience is required. All materials are included—simply arrive ready to create.
